DC Waste have recently partnered with a local property developer who was looking to recycle all the carpet, vinyl and underlay being put down in a 17 flat apartment complex in the centre of the city of Wakefield. We provided a regular collection of all the fitters wastes from site on a regular basis, and on request to fit with the developers requirements.
DC Vans (the removals arm of DC Waste) took a long day trip down to Honiton in Devon today to help a lovely lady move back to her hometown from Yorkshire.
We had a deadline of 1pm to clear the house… but the move went smoothly, Michelle Park (The Yorkshire Move Manager) and her client had all of her possessions boxed up and ready to go so a quick load and we were done by 12:30. Michelle’s client had several furniture items that she no longer wanted so, as part of the service, and as licenced waste carriers, we were able to take them away for reuse or recycling. Then the long drive down to Devon.
At the end of 2012, DC Waste started a carpet recycling collection scheme, aimed at local carpet retailers who wanted to do something about the amount of carpet they were putting in their skip (Big rolls of uplifted carpet take up lots of space when they don’t fit properly in the skip, which limits the amount of waste they could dispose of per skip). Since the launch of the carpet recycling scheme in November 2012, we’ve had plenty of interest.
So, a quick update. In the two short months since the beginnings of the scheme towards the end of November 2012, we had collected 1.7 tonnes of waste carpet. Not bad for a new scheme.
DC Waste’s new carpet recycling scheme has received some attention from industry news websites! So far we have been featured in an article in Recycling, Construction and Demolition Magazine and briefly mentioned on LetsRecycle.com. You can read the full article on HUB4 here.
Since November, we’ve been busy streamlining the carpet recycling scheme and finding reputable recyclers for carpet and other flooring wastes returned to us.
DC Waste would like to welcome two new members to the carpet waste recycling scheme. Flooring 4 You of Mirfield and Branagan Flooring Services in Manchester have become the latest to join our growing network of retailers.
We’re really looking forward to working with them on improving their recycling rates and environmental credentials.

DC Waste have set up a collection scheme for carpet fitting wastes from local carpet and flooring retailers in the Yorkshire region in conjunction with Carpet Recycling UK.
The new carpet waste recycling scheme uses bulk bags left with retailers to store their fitting wastes in, DC Waste then collect the bags, replace them with fresh ones and take the full bags for further processing. Waste carpets are sent to local recyclers where they are made into new products.

Have you tried calling the council to get rid of a bulky piece of furniture or fridge freezer? Don’t want to wait 3 – 6 weeks?
Give DC Waste a call on 07870 459 737.
We can normally collect within the week and we’ll take the item out for you from any room in the house – saving you hassle and the inconvenience of having to keep it outside until the council can come and collect it.
When it comes to waste, the idea is to minimise the amount produced, then reuse it or recycle it. The last option is disposal through landfill. The ‘waste hierarchy’ has formed the basis of waste management strategies since the 1980s, if not earlier and has become an accepted feature of European Community waste policy. The focus of the waste hierarchy is to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill and being permanently removed from the waste cycle and the possibility of recycling.
